Post-Flood Reconstruction

In 2014 the new Phuktal Monastic School facility was officially completed. The new campus contained student housing, multiple class rooms, staff quarters, offices, a library, Sowa-Rigpa health care center, prayer-assembly hall, and kitchen-dining facilities. Most importantly, Phuktal Monastic School was able to increase its enrollment significantly.

In May 2015, the Phuktal River in Lungnak Valley flooded and washed away the entire school campus. Nothing remains — all buildings, equipment, students’ property, teaching materials, and stores were destroyed. Phuktal Monastery has submitted applications to the concerned state and central government agencies for financial aid to rebuild. Of course, any private donations or, in future, assistance with construction, will be greatly appreciated.
